Summer Tutoring

Photo by Matthew CavanaughAt World Sports Camp we understand that in order to be a great athlete you have to also be a great student.  Being able to understand concepts in school, will help transition an athlete to understand concepts on the playing field or court.  This is why we have developed the WSC Summer Tutoring program.

World Sports Camp offers summer tutoring in: Math, Reading Comprehension and English as a Second Language (ESL).  Our classes are taught by certified teachers and college education majors, Monday through Friday for 2.5 hours per day, which fits perfectly into our daily schedule.  After class, athletes will be able to seamlessly transition back into participating in our sport activities.

** Please note that parents enrolling their athletes in the WSC Summer Tutoring program are asked to communicate with their athlete’s teacher(s) to determine specific areas for improvement.  This will help the WSC teachers focus on exactly what needs to be tackled in the short amount of time the athlete is at camp.

Personalized tutoring is not included in base tuition and is available as an optional add-on during registration.**

Math Tutoring

Reading Comprehension

ESL InstructionReading comprehension is the ability to read text, process it and understand its meaning.  If word recognition is difficult, athletes typically focus on individual words rather than grasping the concept of the entire sentence or paragraph.  At WSC our teachers help athletes build their reading comprehension skills in order to understand the meaning behind what has been read and be able to share that understanding with others.  Often times, athletes have a summer reading list from their school that can be overwhelming.  The WSC teachers help to break down those books, chapter by chapter and page by page.  We make summer reading an activity that is not a chore, but something that can be fun and exciting.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

ESL WritingThis program is open to all athletes who want to learn and improve their English skills.  The first day that an athlete attends our ESL classes, they will take a placement exam, in order to determine their beginning skill level.  At WSC we accept all skill levels from beginner to proficient.  TOEFL test scores are not required.  The WSC teachers cater to each athlete by developing lessons that will enhance pre-established skill sets in speaking, reading and writing.

Please note that a minimum of 60% of all athletes at World Sports Camp are from the United States of America, therefore, English is the only language spoken on the campus and athletes from other countries will truly be immersed in the English language and American culture!!
